History is taught through engaging half-termly topics. Each topic builds on pupils’ prior learning from previous topics and ensures a clear progression of knowledge, concepts and skills from year 1 to year 6. This also ensures pupil gain a deep understanding of chronology. Four themes (politics religion, lifestyle and the economy) are intertwined throughout so pupils gain a clear understanding of them over time. Historical off site learning opportunities such as visits to Quarry Bank Mill, Yorvik, Tatton Park and the Peoples History museum enrich the pupils understanding of the past. Manchester Museum’s Inflatable Museum and resources from touch stones are used to enhance pupils’ appreciation of how historical sources help us to interpret the past.
