Find out what we have been up to

Well done to our Key Stage 2 Dodgeball Team, who competed in the Heywood Schools festival this afternoon. Well done to the team. 👏

We have been working hard to create a plan for active breaktimes to complete with children in other year groups. We have been thinking about what skills we could teach to others and how to engage younger children in being active!

Throughout the year Sports Leaders conduct pupil voice groups, asking pupils from all year groups which skills, clubs or sports they would like to see more of in school. One of the things that this allows is the chance for pupils to reflect on their own learning from our PE sessions taught in school and raise their own preferences for further opportunities to rehearse a key skill. It also allows children the chance to express an interest in different sports which they might be interested in and want the opportunity to experience. This might reflect sporting opportunities outside of school in the local area or events in the wider community (e.g. Olympics, Paralympics, Commonwealth Games, World Cup, Ashes etc).

From these pupil voice groups, Sports Leaders feedback to Mr. Beamish and Miss Anson who look for afterschool clubs or lunchtime club opportunities to offer, and the Sports Leaders help to plan and run lunchtime clubs and activities for younger children in the school to participate in. Some sports offered include athletics and dance.
