In Reception, art is taught throughout the curriculum and is based upon the books the children read such as Elmer and The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
We were very proud that our school was chosen to collaborate with professional artists to create permanent artworks (legacy pieces) using clay for Rochdale Town Hall. Children were filmed and interviewed for an AV piece in the new Welcome exhibition entitled ‘What Rochdale Means to Rochdalians.’ A specialist AV crew came in to school which was very exciting. We are working with May Wild Studios to create artworks for The Bright Hall. This space will be used for a variety of functions when the town hall re-opens, including weddings, school activities, community events and temporary exhibitions. Our work will be two of the eight ceiling artworks ‘A Bright Sky’.
Hugh Templeton is an inspirational artist and teacher who uses watercolours to inspire adults and children. His unique workshops reflect the requirements of the National Curriculum and offer the children a step by step journey into the skills of watercolour painting. Class 10 in Year 4 enjoyed a fantastic workshop with him on landscapes!
Year 3 were lucky enough to experience a workshop in felting where they created beautiful pictures out of felt! We were very proud of how they represented our school's artistic skills.
