Learning and News

We love being able to spend time with and support our buddies to try their best, stay safe and show respect and what a gorgeous afternoon we had for it!

The chicks arrived for Year 6 this week. We had a lovely end to our morning holding the chicks on Thursday before we spent some time with our reception buddies. Pictures pending!

This half-term we have been having a weekly assembly on 'debating'. We have understood the MACE structure and how it is used in parliament, how to debate respectfully and take each other's points on board as well as conducting our own debates in class.

We have been understanding and calculating the mean in maths, using multilink cubes to physically demonstrate our understanding of the learning steps. If the children see the word 'average' in their questions they are going to ask themselves, "What does it mean?" to trigger their memories of how to calculate the mean.

In PSHE, we have been doing some drama using freeze frames to show different endings to a given scenario; showing how we could and should respond.

We have been practising our sewing skills using a back stitch ready to create our own phone socks in DT!

Year 6 have had a World War 2 workshop from Touchstones Museum this week where they have learnt more about the event and then built their own Anderson shelters and tried on gas masks!

Year 6 have successfully completed the Play Maker award delivered by Sports Leader UK and Your Trust.

Our class assembly was a success! The children worked so hard and enjoyed putting this together so much we sang our songs throughout the day!

Year 6 visited the Imperial War Museum North as an introduction to their World War 2 history unit. Everyone had a great time investigating vehicles, understanding rationing and even getting to speak to a World War 2 veteran.

In RE, we have been exploring Christian values and how they are represented through works of art. We have labelled different pieces of work with emotions, values and have even posed our own questions about each piece.

We have been remembering some of this half-term's Spanish vocabulary through a retrieval technique and art all mixed into one!

This week, Year 6 started their Sports Leader course. This will qualify children to set-up and direct activities when assisting Mr Beamish working with younger year groups. A great start from all!

Year 6 have started their whole class instrument project learning to play the cornet with Mr Lewis! We have grasped the holding position of our instruments and have started to work with the valves.

Year 6 have been creating circuits in science. We have been using vocabulary including 'output' and 'input' when explaining what we have made. We are excited to conduct our experiment on voltage next week!
