Learning and News

W/C 25th April

We have been identifying trees in Hopwood Park. We have learned about deciduous and evergreen trees too!

In our geography topic this half term we will be learning about where different animals live in the world! We will be learning our 7 continents and finding out about which animals live where.

Class 4 have really enjoyed learning how to sew and make their own puppets for the children in Reception Class.

W/C 28th February

Year 1 enjoyed their trip to St. Johns church this morning to start off their RE topic where they are learning all about the Easter Story. They enjoyed learning about the different features of the church and enjoyed completing a picture hunt about Easter.

We have been making models of animals ready for our paper mache.

In PSHE we have been learning about different emotions.

We have been making our own beads from paper in art this week.

W/C 24th January

In science, we have been looking at the different types of animals we can find in our classroom rockpool!

In computing we have been starting to make our digital Valentines Day cards using the different tools on our paint app.

In computing, we have practiced our typing then we have started to make our valentines cards.

In RE we have been looking at Christian symbols.

In geography, we will be exploring different parts of the world in our topic "What will we see on our journey around the world?". We will be visiting the rainforest, the desert and a big city and comparing it to where we live. 




In our history topic, "Childhood in the 1950's", we will be comparing old and new toys, looking a how technology has changed and finding out what pocket money was spent on!

Wow! Santa came to Hopwood! We sang him and Mrs Claus some lovely carols.

This week we have finished making our moving picture cards in DT.

What a treat! We had a virtual visit from Nick Sharratt! He taught us how to draw our own illustrations and read his new story 'Oh no! Shark in the snow!'

Class 4 were very excited for their extra playtime for being the 'Reading at Home' winners this week!

In maths, we have been looking at properties of 3D shapes.

We have been testing the best material for Felicity Aston's gloves in science - let's hope she has warm, dry hands on her next polar adventure!

In history, we have looking at different Bonfire Night traditions, including the food people eat! We have tried parkin, toffee apples and treacle cake.

We have been learning how to skip in PE.

W/C 18th October

We have been using a part-whole model to add in maths.

W/C 11th October

In computing, we have been learning how to create an illustration for our book. We have been practicing how to change the background colour and the line thickness.

W/C 4th October

Geography - We had a walk around our local park. We pointed out the human features e.g. bench, road and Co-Op and the physical features e.g. grass, trees and conkers

W/C 27th September

Computing - We have been learning how to use different tools on Clicker. We changed the background colour, added shapes and even used the undo button!

W/C 20th September

Science - this week we have been learning about light sources and what happens when they are blocked. We found the best material for making an opaque shadow is tin foil.

W/C 13th September

We have learning about illustrations in computing - we have located an app on the iPad's and used the paint tools to make cave drawings for Cave Baby!

In geography, we will be using maps to explore our local area in detail and locate local landmarks and familiar places in our topic, "what is it like where we live?".






In our history topic, "why do we remember the 5th of November?", we will be looking at the story of the Gunpowder Plot and how we celebrate the 5th of November. We will ponder the question, ‘Was Guy Fawkes a hero or a villain?’
