Learning and News

26.03.2021

This week we have been looking at optical art in computing and British artist, Bridget Riley. We used 2Simple to create our own pieces of art inspired Riley’s piece, Achæan.

W/C 15th March 2021

This week we celebrated Comic Relief and made posters to share our jokes with our community. We also practised movement and control in PE and started putting different moves together to make a routine.

 

W/C 8th March 2021

This week we shared positive affirmations and worked together as a team to create a class paper, which then got added to a whole school paper chain.

This week in computing we used regular and irregular 2D shapes to create our own tessellations.

 

W/C 22nd February 2021

Year 5 enjoyed creating their own dioramas based on their geography topic of the Alps during #WellbeingWednesday.

 

 

W/C 8th February 2021

This week we celebrated Safer Internet Day. We completed a quiz on Teams and looked at different websites, pop ups and emails and had to decide if they were phishing or not. We also created our own board games and online safety dilemma cards, digital footprints with the different websites and apps we use.

 

 

Geography -The Alps

In this unit, we will learn about the Alpine region of Europe, how the Alps were formed and how homes are adapted to the climate. We will use political and physical maps to focus on countries, cities and regions in Europe and begin to understand some of the physical and human processes that shape a region. 

 

 

Science - Circle of Life

In this topic we will look at the life cycles of various species including mammals, amphibians, fish and birds. We will also look at and describe the life process of reproduction in plants and animals. 

A special message for Year 5

A special visitor came to school today and left a message for our Year 5 children who are learning at home.

This week in PSHE we have been thinking about friendship. We collaborated to make a piece of word art with some of the qualities we look for in a friend.

 

 

27th November 2020

This week we have been discussing emotions and how difficult it can be to read how someone is feeling in a message. In music we have been playing chords on glockenspiels and xylophones to accompany a piece of African music.

 

  

18.11.2020 

Today we investigated filtering solutions in different materials. We mixed soil and water and quinoa and water and tested different ability to filter the soil and quinoa.

Today we paid our respects to the fallen. We discussed the meaning of the poppy and held a 2 minutes silence. Members of our class read 'The Act of Remembrance' by Laurence Binyon and lay a wreath around the flag pole.

Happy Half Term everyone! We loved our non uniform day on the last day of the half term.

This we week have been writing relative clauses and non chronological reports about Dorothy Vaughan, Mary Jackson, Katherine Johnson and Christine Darden. We have also been designing our bread roll products in DT and practising our spellings by creating word clouds.

This week in science we learned about the phases of the moon and how it is lit from reflecting light from the sun. We made booklets to help us remember each of the phases.

This week we have enjoyed taste testing different types of bread for our DT project.

This week we held our school council elections in class. The results were incredibly close but well done to our class representative.

 

18.09.2020

This week in computing we learned about Claude Chappe who invented the mechanical semaphore. We then used semaphore flags to encrypt messages.
