July 2019 - Summer Reading Challenge
Are you taking part in the reading challenge this summer Head down to your local library to find out more.
June 2019 - Librarian assembly
We led an assembly to inform the school about the new books that are arriving in the library this week. We have a selection of fiction, non-fiction and poetry. We told the school about our favourite titles and who should read them.
May 2019 - Mind and body
In the library during the month of May, we will be celebrating the link between reading and health. Have you seen these new books in our library? You can find out all about nature, being calm and dealing with emotions. We will also be looking at books about sport. Ask the librarians for more information.
April 2019 - Applications open for new Librarians
Miss Gardner has been working with some Year 5s after school to see if they would like the opportunity to work as librarians next academic year. One of their ideas was to promote new titles arriving to the library on the computers as a desktop. Children will see new titles every time they log on. These will be updated termly.
March 2019 - World Book Day
This year, World Book Day was celebrated on Thursday 7th March. Pupils were given the option of dressing up as their favourite book character. We had the author Pippa Pixley back for the second year to tell us all about her new book that she was taking to London Book Fair. We also had the opportunity to swap our WBD vouchers for a book which the librarians ran. There were some great titles.
February 2019 - Book Bus
We were very excited for the book bus to come to Hopwood. The bus arrived early in the morning and children had the chance to go onto the bus and look at all the different titles including fiction, non-fiction and poetry. There were even some books for the grown-ups.
December 2018 - Our snowman Bill
Our librarians led an assembly to let all the children in Hopwood know about their favourite Christmas books and also a sneak preview of our snowman Bill. 'The Snowman' by Raymond Briggs is celebrating 40 years of being published and after entering a competition we won the chance to design our own snowman.
November 2018 - Take a chance on a book
Our librarians read about the idea of 'take a chance on a book' and decided to implement it in our library. They chose 3 books to wrap up and write clues on the outside for children to use to decide if they wanted to 'take a chance' on that title. We made a video to promote it in the library for twitter.
