In term 5, we will be learning about The Stone Age. We will learn about their diet, their houses, the weapons they used to survive and areas of historical importance.

In DT, we have been looking at shell structures. We tested strengthening methods and created appealing designs for a biscuit box.
This week in Science we have been looking at skeletons. Firstly, the children classified animals by their skeleton types. Then we looked at our skeleton. The children drew an outline of a human and used what they could feel on their own bodies to label bones. We then looked at the main bones in a human skeleton and labelled these.
Class 8 had a fantastic trip to Blackpool Zoo! They looked at the different animals in the zoo, partook in a workshop about animal dentition and nutrition and watched a Sea Lion show!
Class 8 have enjoyed World Book Day! The children took on a Reading Challenge in the playground. They then had a workshop with Pippa Pixley where they created a story with a main character, named Zak the alien!. Finally, the children swapped their book tokens for a book with the Year 6 librarians. What a wonderful day with some amazing costumes!
This week in English, we are using expanded noun phrases. The children looked at the throne scene and found noun and adjectives to create expanded noun phrases. Read some of these on our blog!
This week in maths, we are learning about measure. Today we compared the weight of objects against a 1kg weight before weighing them on a scale.
This week in RE, the children looked at the different festivals celebrated in Islam. The children then selected a festival to act out.
Today we carried out an investigation in Science to see how shadows change. We moved a torch further away from an object and measured the tallest point of the shadow. We found that the closer the light is, the bigger the shadow.
In RE, we are learning about Islam. This week we looked at the 6 main beliefs in Islam as well as the 5 Pillars of Islam. The children created 5 freeze frames to represent the 5 different Pillars.
Class 8 enjoyed investigating different materials to see which was the most reflective. Whichever material was the most reflective will be used on their design for a new book bag!
Year 3 had a fantastic time at their Christmas Party!
Thank you to everyone that came to Year 3 Christmas Craft. We have a fantastic time making pom-pom Father Christmas, robins, snowmen, elves and penguins!
We have been writing instructions in English. Today the children made cheese sandwiches and then wrote a set of instructions for how to make one!
This week in maths we have been looking at fractions. The children had to use fraction blocks to come up with as many ways as they could to make a whole one!
In Theme this week, we have been looking at how volcanoes can affect the lives of living things. The children had to sort reasons into for and against to living near a volcano. All of Class 8 decided the pros outweighed the cons and wanted to live near a volcano!
During Anti-bullying week, we have been looking at different types of bullying and how we can stop it. The children composed different rap, songs and poems about cyber bullying and what to do if you see it. This fantastic song uses THINK as a way to check what you are seeing, saying and sending.
Class 8 had a fantastic time in the Year 3 Spelling Bee. Well done to all those children who competed, we are very proud of you!
In PSCHE we have been discussing how we can learn from our mistakes and why it is better to make mistakes rather than being perfect. In groups, the children acted out a scenario where they made a mistake before acting out the same scenario and learning from that mistake.
This week in English we have been using conjunctions to extend sentences. We played duelling flipcharts to gather a word bank of conjunctions we then used in our writing.

This week we went on a school trip to Quarry Bank Mill. We learned about the jobs adults and children did in the mills and how spinning cotton changed over the years.
This week in Computing, we have been looking at how word order affects our search results. We used 3 words and put them into 3 different orders to find out which would give us the best and most reliable results.
