Learning and News

In half term 2, we will be exploring 'what makes the Earth angry?' We will be looking at enormous earthquakes, terrifying tsunamis and violent volcanoes. We'll learn about how they are created, how they are measured and the impact that they have on people's lives. Using actual specimens, we will look at the different rock types and see what we can find to identify and classify the rocks around us. It's all very exciting...I can't wait!!

In Theme this week, we have been looking at how volcanoes can affect the lives of living things. The children had to sort reasons into for and against to living near a volcano. All of Class 8 decided the pros outweighed the cons and wanted to live near a volcano!

During Anti-bullying week, we have been looking at different types of bullying and how we can stop it. The children composed different rap, songs and poems about cyber bullying and what to do if you see it. This fantastic song uses THINK as a way to check what you are seeing, saying and sending.

In PSCHE we have been discussing how we can learn from our mistakes and why it is better to make mistakes rather than being perfect. In groups, the children acted out a scenario where they made a mistake before acting out the same scenario and learning from that mistake.

This week in English we have been using conjunctions to extend sentences. We played duelling flipcharts to gather a word bank of conjunctions we then used in our writing.

Week commencing 2nd October 2017

This week we went on a school trip to Quarry Bank Mill. We learned about the jobs adults and children did in the mills and how spinning cotton changed over the years.

Computing

This week in Computing, we have been looking at how word order affects our search results. We used 3 words and put them into 3 different orders to find out which would give us the best and most reliable results.
