We hope you have a lovely break and are ready for our final term in reception! This term we will be exploring dinosaurs and will be learning about these extinct animals through lots of exciting new stories. We will be meeting Harry in the story of Harry and his Bucketful of Dinosaurs. We will be writing our own instructions with the story How to grow a dinosaur as well as learning lots of facts about these creatures and where they came from through non-fiction books!
This week the children have enjoyed finding out about Q Pootle 5 and organising his birthday party. We have been writing invitations, decorating the home corner, wrapping presents and our own party menus.
This week we have been having lots of fun working on our scissor skills and our fine motor skills. We have been creating our own space rockets and pictures using different materials.
We hope you have a lovely Easter Break! Next term we are entering outer space and will be learning about space through lots of exciting new stories. We will be meeting Aliens in the story of Aliens Love Underpants and creating some new underpants for them. We will be designing our own rockets and making rocket fuel when learning about the story of The Dinosaur that Pooped a Planet. We will also be learning lots of different information about the planets and life in space through non-fiction books!
We have been so busy since the Easter holidays on our class assembly! The children were absolutely FANTASTIC. Their dancing, singing, acting and art work blew everyone away. Well done Class 2, we are so proud of you! Thank you to the parents for helping their child learn their lines and for coming to watch the assembly, we really appreciate it!

This week we have been taking part in lots of Easter activities! Here are some pictures of what we created!
This week we welcomed our new tortoise friend into Reception! We got him out this week to introduce himself and the children enjoyed holding him and seeing what he looks like. We are yet to give him a name!
What an exciting day we have had! The chicks have grown up so fast and today we held and stroked the chicks. We loved taking care of them and were very careful when we held them.

This week we started our new story Rumble in the Jungle and have started to learn about different animals that live in the jungle. We spoke about animals fur and skin and what they colours and patterns they were. We also talked about animals being camouflage in their environment. The children made some of their own camouflage picture.
Class 2 had such a great time today with professional chefs who came into school to show the children how pizzas were made and tell them about the story of the Margarita pizza! The children then sat down for an Italian lunch which included pizza, lasagne and meatballs! All the children said it was delicious. Big thanks to the chefs at Salvi's!
This term our classroom has been turned into an Animal Kingdom! Throughout the term we will be learning about the different animals that live in the jungle as well as finding out about animals that live under the sea. The stories we will be exploring include; Rumble in the Jungle, Commotion in the ocean and The Rainbow fish. We will be writing facts files, recount writing and our own riddles about different animals.
This week we have been finding out lots of facts about pandas! We watched a video and wrote down the facts. The children were then recorded saying their favourite facts. Visit our class blog to listen to them.
This week the children have been introduced to the story of Paddington Bear and have been very busy this week already. Today the children have been writing their own bear tags, just like Paddington Bears! They have also been making their own tags, making Paddington Bear puppets and using the iPads to find and take a picture of him around our classroom.
For the past 2 weeks we have been learning about adding and taking away small amounts. We used lots of different resources such as Numicon, buttons, unifix cubes and counters to help us with our calculations. Please continue to practise this at home with your child.
Class 2 found frozen bears outside their classroom today and we thought about different ways in which we could help them escape! We put them in the sun to melt, threw them on the floor so they would smash, put them near the hot radiator to melt and used different tools to break them. We had lots of fun talking about what we were going to do and even more fun doing it!
This week we started our new story; We're Going on a Bear Hunt'. We have been looking at the different parts of the story and describing what they look like. The children worked in groups to think of some different describing words and wrote all of their ideas down. They then presented their ideas to the rest of the class.
Today Class 2 received a special letter from a baker. He needed our help to make Santa his famous mince pies just in time for Christmas. He left us with the things we needed to make it, as well as the instructions on what we needed to do. The children loved making the mince pies and were introduced to some new baking equipment. What a fantastic week we have had in Reception! The children loved performing their Christmas production, Angel Express for all their family and friends. Their singing, acting and dancing skills blew us all away, what superstars! Thank you so much to all those that attended the show and thank you for all your support. This week Class 2 have been learning about 2D shapes. The children have been naming and describing shapes as well as looking for different shapes in the environment. As a class we sorted out the different shapes and spoke about how many corners and sides each shape had.
We had a visit from Freddy Fit this week. We warmed up our muscles and then used the hula hoops to twist our bodies. We had SO much fun, thanks Freddy!
This week we have been learning about capacity. We have spoke about the different words we might use to describe how much water is inside a container. We used the words full, half full and empty and even talked about nearly full and nearly empty. We explored this with lots of different resources in the outdoor area as well as in the classroom.
We have loved spending time in our new and improved outdoor area this week! We have been investigating the water pipes, exploring the small world tyres, creating our own songs and dances, using the instruments to make different sounds and writing on our new chalk boards.
This week we have started our new topic Funny Bones! We have been learning about our bodies and have been labelling our own bodies, making skeletons and creating our own Funny Bones pictures.
We have had a lovely week celebrating poetry week. We have learnt a new song which we performed with the whole of KS1 on the front yard, taken part in a poetry picnic, as well as taking part in a Skype call with the author Margaret Bateson-Hill who read her story "Five Little Ducks". We have also read some poem at story time. It has been a fantastic week!
We received a letter from Kipper this week to help him plan his birthday party. We wrote a list of all the things we would need to make for the day. We have made a start already and have been wrapping presents, making invitations, writing birthday cards and making decorations for the big party!
We have had a great day today with Freddy Fit! We enjoyed warming up and feeling our heart beat faster. We were practising our jumping skills and really enjoyed exercising with music. Thanks Freddy Fit, see you next time!
Miss Rudman and Mrs Backhouse have had a really enjoyable week with Reception; they have settled in very well indeed! This week we have been getting to know each other and the children have enjoyed exploring in their new classroom! We are looking forward to a very busy year ahead, with lots of exciting topics to learn about.
This year we will be exploring lots of wonderful stories. We will begin this half term with the story of Charlie and Lola I am too absolutely small for school. We will be talking about school and what we are looking forward to in our first year at Hopwood! We will also be reading the story of Kipper’s Birthday. We will be learning all about birthdays and how we celebrate them. We will then go on to plan Kipper his very own party which will take place in October. We will need to wrap his birthday presents and make invitations, banners and birthday cards.
